Board Member at Large

1) How did you first learn about Arizona Autism Network?
After moving here from Nebraska we didn't know where to turn or who to even ask. Kerrie Thompson approached me at a buddy baseball game and handed me a flyer for a new organization. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

2) What are 3 words to describe Arizona Autism Network?
Helpful, resourceful, and wonderful

3) What is on your wish list for the next 12 months as a Board Member with Arizona Autism Network?
I wish to meet and share experiences with more members and to help direct new members to the organization.

4) Favorite quote?
Not so much a quote, but the poem "Welcome to Holland"

5) Favorite travel spot?
Anywhere new. I want to see and do everything at least once

6) What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
You don't know how strong you will be, but keep going.

7) If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
A miserable, joyous life

8) Three words to best describe you.
Go-getter, outgoing introvert, non-judgmental

9) What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
Roll with the punches and duck when they are in your direction!

10) What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have?
I love crafting of many kinds. Power tools don't scare me. I love decorating and designing rooms.

11) Tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband, Matt, are high school sweethearts and have been married for 13 years. We have three amazing kids. Our oldest is the brightest angel I have ever met on earth. He is a Godsend and wonderful with all the kids we meet. He seems to know when someone needs some extra help and attention. Our middle child is our warrior. He started having seizures when he was 4 months old. In 2014 he had brain surgery to remove 4 parts of his brain. At 6 years old he received his autism diagnosis. He is a joy to be around. He has a smile that lights up any room. Our youngest is a spitfire, with enough sass and attitude to compete with any teenager! (she's 4!) But she has such a fun personality too. Nothing seems to upset her. She is always singing and dancing to the beat of her own drum!

12) What advice would you give a new set of parents whose child was just diagnosed with autism?
Come visit us! Come ask questions! Come find friends going through or have gone through what you are going through.
